Ryan and Siri
6/1/'14 UPDATE
We are disappointed to report that Siri's Ultrasound did not reveal any puppies, in spite of how well things were timed and how smoothly the insemination process went. While the test could be wrong, that is not likely. Next time both dogs are in season we will consider our options, including trying this again, or using Lilah, as Siri is 7 now. Sorry to all who had their hopes up. we are in that camp too.
5/3/'14 UPDATE
We attempted surgical insemination between Ryan and Siri on 4/23/'14, by Dr Jessica Willcock in Kirkland WA. We will not know whether Siri is with pups for a few more weeks, though I may sneak a look with Ultrasound in a couple weeks to see what I can. It has been a long road, she went into season the week after Ryan died, then seemed to simply skip her next 2 ovulations, so here we are all this time later. Oddly, for reasons that defy explanation, we had over 100 different people look at this website on April 23. Almost no one knew about the procedure, outside of our families. The Sperm bank ICSB in Oregon did a good job, though this is an expensive and complicated process; The motility was 40-50% which is very good. We had 3 progesterone levels done, and can pin ovulation to about 4/20, and gestation is 63 days from then, if at all. So with a lot of luck, we could have pups around June 22, and ready for pick up the week of August 17th. We will keep you posted. We know this is very exciting news after all the inquiries and all this time. Hang in there.

11/1/'11 UPDATE
On September 8th, Ryan lost his battle with cancer. Throughout that whole ordeal, Ryan was as always: Gentle, kind, calm, strong and loving. All he really wanted was to be with us, but we had to let him go. He lived 4 months when the oncologist gave him one month. He was incredibly tough, and rallied many times, defying all normal expectations. We miss him, and the girls miss him. This is the deal we sign up for when we allow these dogs to enter our lives, but it does seem harder with these guys. Siri went into season right after that, so any breeding is put off for a while now. As below, we may use the frozen Ryan sperm next chance, possibly June with pups in August if things go as planned. We do appreciate the ongoing great interest in our dogs. Obviously some of this has to do with the supreme quality of Ryan, but the AWS is a great and unique breed of dog, the only breed for us and three thousand other devoted owners, so do pursue your efforts to find an AWS if this seems like a good fit for your family. Thank you for your patience, and for those of you who wish to, or have contacted us through the entry form ("contact" to the left) we will be in touch when we know specifics of our next breeding effort, next year.
8/6/'11 UPDATE
Ryan was diagnosed with Lymphoma of the intestines in mid May. He was given "3 to 30" days to live without chemo. We elected to forego chemo, which would not have cured him. Mainly because he is such a strong tough dog, he is still with us, almost 3 months later, but he continues to lose ground. So many times over these past 3 months he has been on the ropes, only to rally once again. We had him on an aggressive mostly homeopathic regimen, but now he's not tolerating that much. The girls are as spirited as ever. Lilah has been developing her own swimming chops, and is becoming a really fine girl.
We have Ryan sperm frozen in a bank in Oregon. We'll see about using that when Sirius goes into season, probably late fall. We have many folks on the waiting list, so hopefully we'll still be able to come through for some of you. Thank you for your faith in our dogs, and your understanding.
4/18/11: UPDATE
It has been a year since the pups were whelped. (see pic of Lilah at one year old in the Puppy blog). We have had many inquiries about our next litter, so it's time to provide an update. Our plan all along was to give Siri one cycle off. She went into season finally just a couple months ago, so now we are still waiting. Who knows if and when it will happen, but possibly around Fall, with pups before the end of the year. We are keeping a list, so do respond through the Contact link to the left if you wish to be kept apprised of puppy status. The price of the pups will again be $1000. when we have an idea of how many pups we have we may need to take deposits due to the demand. Also, Ryan is doing great. He's at his hunting weight of about 44lbs right now, very fit and trim. I'll post a recent pic or 2 of him too on the blog page. Thanks for all the interest, and hang in there. Anyone in the Seattle area is certainly welcome to see Orion, Sirius and d'Lilah.
6/14/10: The litter whelped 4/7/10 is sold out. We will be keeping a waiting list of interested parties for a repeat, future breeding of these 2 parents. Based on the quality of the pups these 2 have just produced together, we will again have exceptionally high expectations of this future litter. Of special note, 5 of the 6 pups will be staying in Western Washington, and the one dog leaving the state is sold to an old friend and admirer of our dogs, who had lived in Washington until recently. A number of the dogs will have the opportunity to hunt, and they are all going to exceptional, loving homes with children.
4/1/10 Currently we have a litter on the way, due around 4/7/2010! We own the Sire and the Dam, these 2 you see in the picture at right, and have planned this breeding for over 3 years. This is a an exceptional opportunity to acquire a premier pup. We have high expectations for the quality of these pups, based on our knowledge of their genetics, and knowing them as our dogs. Having the sire on site is a nice advantage, from the standpoint of assessing the pups. They will be AKC registered, chipped, vaccinated and have dew claws removed. The parents will have OFA/CERF hips eyes health clearances.
